OAuth access for Gmail access

Most Google APIs support this OAuth standard, and starting today it is also available for the IMAP/SMTP feature of Gmail.

Good. More apps that want to access the existing “social graph” in your Gmail account can do so more securely. It’s a good step, anyway, so you don’t have to hand your password over to Facebook or LinkedIn or whomever just so they can check whether any of your email friends also use their network.
