Creative writing class worth it?

In Uncategorized on 2009-08-10 by Kyle Maxwell

I’ve started considering taking a continuing-education creative writing class at the local community college. I have a B.S  in mathematics and have always worked in technical areas (primarily information security) but, as this blog and my other projects point out, I’d really like to transition over the next several years into something more creative. All this presupposes finding new employment between now and then, as I realize that I probably will not make a living at this right away.

I should probably note here that I have no interest in the romance novel course, heh. The short story course appeals to me a little more, but novel writing seems so foreign to me that I might delve into it as well.

Any thoughts on whether these sorts of classes really have value? Should I spend the time on them?
